What We’re Working On

As we begin wrapping up the year, the Permanent team is working diligently to close out some major projects that have been ongoing this year. 

Continue Archivematica Integration Work: This quarter, our back-end engineer, Liam, is working on displaying Archivematica-generated access copies of your files in your archive. This is a major milestone for this project! While you will likely not see any difference, new files displayed on Permanent will have been processed using Archivematica. 

Release Onboarding UI on Web: While the team is almost finished with implementing the changes to the user interface of archive creation on the web, we are making some important changes to how we release new features. By adding a feature flag in the back end, we can allow the Experience Team to decide when to release new features with just a few button clicks! This will be especially important and impactful as we continue making changes to the user interface on the web.

Continued Upgrades to Mobile User Interface: Our mobile team is almost done with implementing our new sign in and sign up pages on mobile and tablet. This is part of a larger project to update our user interface across all platforms and to implement a tablet app for iOS and Android.

Recent Releases, Improvements, and Fixes

Two-Step Verification: Here at Permanent, we strive to provide you with features and functionality that ensures that your digital legacy is protected and secure. We have recently added two-step verification to our web app, so you can better protect your account. Two-step verification requires you to enter a four digit code, sent via email or text message, to verify your identity when logging in. Learn how to set up two-step verification here.

New Sign In and Sign Up Screens: Thanks to our new user interface designs that we are working on implementing, we have updated the sign in and sign up screens with a fun photo from one of our members’ public archives! Check out Sue’s archive here. Want to be featured on future sign up screens? Email us at support@permanent.org and let us know.

Bug Fixes: We are always fixing bugs (that is, small problems) that you report to us. For high priority bugs, our turnaround time is one to two weeks. Recently, we fixed: 1) some windows that weren’t opening and closing correctly (location and profile photo and banner), 2) the “Create archive for me” button functionality so that it only creates one archive instead of two, and 3) the “View on web” button functionality on the archive profile so it takes members to the live version of their archive profile.
