Memory Loss, Conversations, and Family History

Project Recipe: Memory Loss, Conversations, and Family History — In this special Project Recipe event, our guest speaker, Jude Rhodes of Stories of Our Generations, will share her approach to engaging clients and loved ones suffering from memory loss. To join us live, please visit the Zoom registration page.

In her UK consulting practice, she uses family history and a thoughtfully prepared memory book as a touchstone for meaningful conversations.
Jude is an accomplished genealogist and a registered nurse who has focused on caring for elders with dementia and memory care for decades. In her practice, she focuses on connecting with her clients where they are despite cognitive impairments. Instead of pressing them to recall people and places in the recent past, she prepares custom books referencing select materials that take them back to a familiar, if distant, past.

In this Projectkin program, Jude will share a “recipe” for preparing this memory book, which is more than a photo book or box of old snapshots. Using the FAN (Family, Associates, and Neighbours) method, Jude sources artifacts, photographs, maps, and music that will resonate with her client’s distant past. She then assembles the materials into a visual narrative that loved ones can use to spark memories and engage patients struggling with these challenges.

This free program will be held online via Zoom; everyone is welcome. Link details will be emailed to you after registration. Join us as a free Projectkin member and automatically receive an email with the recipe, recording, and project resources shortly after the program’s conclusion.
