What We’re Working On

March wraps up the first quarter of the year, and our team has been working on a number of improvements that will hopefully make a big difference in our members’ ability to connect with others through the preservation work they’re doing on Permanent. We know that you preserve your legacy or a legacy that’s important to you on Permanent in the hopes that someone – whether that be your loved ones or your great-great-great grandchild – will find meaning in your stories. We are dedicated to improving the sharing and collaboration experience on Permanent so you can focus on capturing and telling your stories.

Share with others without a Permanent account (beta): The engineering team has been diligently working on creating the new unlisted share link feature this quarter to allow members to show off their work privately with loved ones who don’t have a Permanent account. Now that the foundational work is completed, they are making changes to the user interface to allow users to create an unlisted share link. We hope to start testing the feature internally at the end of March and will continue working towards releasing this feature for our members soon.

Improvements to sharing files between archives: We learn a lot from our members about how we can make Permanent easier for you and your loved ones to use. This quarter, we’ve been working on a number of small improvements to make sharing files between archives more straightforward. This month, we’re reworking the menu you see when trying to share a file or folder with another archive. The improvements will hopefully clarify the different ways you can search for archives to share with or filter among the archives you already have a connection to. We hope that you’ll be able to see these changes in a few weeks!

Recent Releases, Improvements, and Fixes

We’re thrilled to announce an upgrade to the management of our security features on the mobile app for iPhone! Although many Permanent.org accounts already have two-step verification turned on, you can now manage your own two-step verification methods directly within your Permanent account in the iOS app. Two-step verification is crucial because it adds an extra layer of security by requiring not only a password but also a one-time code sent to your email or cell phone to log in to your account. Two-step verification significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your accounts. This feature will also be available on the Android mobile app very soon.

Bug Fixes: We are always fixing bugs (that is, small problems) that you report to us. For high-priority bugs, our turnaround time is one to two weeks. Recently, we fixed: 1) a bug that prevented users who were not logged in from seeing the Public Gallery, and 2) a couple of bugs that made it challenging to modify two-step verification settings on the webapp.

We want to hear from you! If you find a bug or wish to tell us about a feature or improvement you’d like to see, contact us at support@permanent.org and we’ll add it to the list. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.

If you have reported a bug or product improvement and wish to see its status, you can view the Member Improvements List here. We try to work on these bug fixes and improvements in order, so check back to see when your reported issue is resolved.
